In a recent Radio Centro interview, Laurie Grove, our Director of Career Services, shared insights into the important role the office plays in providing career services to students, faculty, and employers. The office operates like an internal sales force, emphasizing that without the collaboration of these three stakeholder partners, their efforts would be in vain.

The interview highlighted the office's proactive approach in guiding students through the stages of career planning. The key advice given to students is to envision the lifestyle they aspire to and then delve into researching various career paths that align with their ambitions. This initial self-assessment will help them choose the right educational path and ultimately, where they might consider attending college.

For employers wanting to hire our talented graduates, the Career Services office provides advice on how to effectively engage with educational institutions, including secondary to postgraduate. Grove advises community partners get involved in local schools and participate in occupational advisory committees, which are instrumental in shaping the programs. Employers are also encouraged to participate in college recruiting events and other activities, ensuring they have access to well-prepared graduates.

The favorite part of her role is witnessing the transformative impact on students' lives. From entering college with uncertainty to becoming sought-after professionals, the journey is profoundly rewarding. The fact that many employers return to recruit new graduates is a testament to the quality and effectiveness of the education we offer. Listen here: Laurie Grove Radio Centro march 19 2024.mp3
