Lancaster, PA - Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology celebrates the second graduating class of the Skill Up Fast Facilities Maintenance Technology program.

The graduating class of 17 comprised of individuals from diverse backgrounds but united under a common goal: to prepare for work and for life.

"The mantra I kept hearing from the students was, 'make a better future for the family'," said Dr. Timothy Bianchi, program coordinator, "the students’ drive to succeed on behalf of their family is what the American Dream is all about. They have been an inspiration."

The Facilities Maintenance Technology program is a 24-week class that teaches students to be a well-rounded technician learning from various trades such as, carpentry, electrical, and masonry. Towards the last six weeks of the program, they apply what they learned through a paid capstone project in the Lancaster community.

The students used their knowledge and provided restorative work at Crispus Attucks. The project included the renovation of the  Community Center.

The program is funded by the BB&T Economic Growth Fund of the Lancaster County Community Foundation.

Mr. Alex Brame, BB&T, Lancaster and Lebanon Market President stated that the program success, thus far, with these 16 graduates is just the type of thing BB&T’s Economic Development Fund was designed to accomplish.

"I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work on their behalf. They are now part of the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology family…and we are so proud of them," says Dr. Bianchi.
