Players Take Top Honors in the Conference

LANCASTER, PA – The Thaddeus Stevens College Football Team was honored Thursday when the Seaboard Conference recognized many of the 2014 players with top honors.

A complete listing of the players honored include:

  • Offensive MVP: DJ Harrison (RB) – York, PA (Central York High School)
    • This is Harrison’s second year receiving top honors. In 2013, Harrison was named the League MVP. In 2014, he rushed for 968 yards in 9.5 games (7.7 yards per carry) and had 354 yards receiving (14.5 yards per reception). As team captain, Harrison compiled 8 rushing touchdowns, 3 receiving touchdowns, 1 punt returned for a touchdown and several long kickoff returns.

  • Defensive Co-MVP: De’Mond Davis-White – Sharon, PA (Sharon High School)
    • De’Mond Davis-White was named to the 1st Defensive team in 2013. In 2014 he had 38 tackles, 17 assists, 12 tackles for a loss, 4 quarterback sacks, 1 interception, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 forced fumbles. Davis-White was also a team captain and started every game of the year. 

Offensive Team – 1st Team:          

  • Quarterback - Andy Breault (QB) – Elizabethtown, PA (Elizabethtown Area HS)
    • 930 yards passing (over 10 yards per attempt), 150 yards rushing, 9 passing touchdowns, 2 rushing touchdowns
  • Running Back - DJ Harrison (RB) – York, PA (Central York HS)
  • Offensive Line - Tyshawn Anderson (OL) – Glen Mills, PA (Glen Mills School)
  • Offensive Line - Davon Cobb (OL) – Chester, PA (Chester HS)
    • Played five different positions – OG, OT, TE, FB, HB
  • Wide Receiver - Kariff Hakim (WR) – Pottstown, PA (Pottstown HS)
    • 3 touchdowns, averaging 15 yards per catch, 250 yards
  • Kicker/Punter - Jon Bollenbach (K/P) - Coatesville, PA (Homeschooled)
    • Served as the team's kicker and punter this season with a season long kick of 35 yards

Defensive Team – 1st Team:

  • Defensive Line - DeMond Davis-White – Sharon, PA (Sharon HS)
  • Defensive Line - Christian Simpkins – Stowe, PA (Pottsgrove HS)
    • 28 tackles, 29 assists, 6 QB sacks, 11 tackles for loss
  • Linebacker - Joe Murren – New Oxford, PA (New Oxford HS)
    • 40 tackles, 19 assists, 7 tackles for a loss, 1 fumble recovery, 2 interceptions, 3 pass break ups
  • Linebacker - Demetrius Young – Sinking Spring, PA (Wilson HS)
    • 42 tackles, 11 assists, 15 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions (1 for a touchdown), 3 pass break ups
  • Defensive Back - Isaiah Ray – York, PA (William Penn HS)
    • 14 pass break ups, 2 interceptions

Offensive Team – 2nd Team:         

  • Offensive Line - Coty Stewart – Harrisburg, PA (Central Dauphin HS)
  • Offensive Line - AJ Jenkins - Levittown, PA (Bucks County Technical School)
  • Wide Receiver - Matthew Perry – Reading, PA (Reading HS)
  • Wide Receiver - Michael Ruley-Smoluk – Edystone, PA (Ridley Sr HS)                      

Defensive Team – 2nd Team:

  • Defensive Line - Donte Rideout – Sharon Hill, PA (Academy Park HS)
    • 18 tackles, 6 assists, 2 QB sacks, 6 tackles for a loss, 1 fumble recovery and two pass break ups
  • Defensive Line - Devon Vogel – Clifton Heights, PA (Upper Darby HS)
    • 11 tackles, 8 assists, 3 QB sacks

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology finished the 2014 with a total record of 7-3. The team fell late in the season to Valley Forge Military College, narrowly missing out on its fifth consecutive Seaboard Conference Championship.

The Seaboard Conference Athletic Association is dedicated to promote the athletic programs of all small colleges in the Northeast Region of the United States, which have state, regional and/or national accreditation. The primary goal of the association is to develop equitable opportunities for intercollegiate athletic competition for the student athletes of its member schools.

Thaddeus Stevens College maintains an athletic program of five major intercollegiate sports. They are football, cross-country, basketball, wrestling, and track and field. Contests are scheduled against college and university junior varsity teams and junior and community colleges in the mid Atlantic states. The cross-country, wrestling, and track and field programs are presently affiliated with the National Junior College Athletic Association. These affiliations allow Stevens’ athletes to compete in regional and national competition when qualifying standards are met. The basketball team is member in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference and the football squad in the Seaboard Conference.

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology is a premier residential, two-year, fully accredited technical college that provides a free education to financially disadvantaged citizens of Pennsylvania as well as serving tuition paying students.  Stevens has expanded from its original student body of 15 to over 900 students who are enrolled in 21 high-skill, high-wage technical programs. Over 90% of the College’s graduates have remained in the Commonwealth since it’s founding in 1905. For three consecutive years, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology was recognized by the Aspen Institute, an independent research panel, as one of the top 120 two-year colleges in the country. Thaddeus Stevens College was the only college in Pennsylvania recognized by the Aspen Institute.
