    Full Time Students

    A full time student must maintain at least 12 credits during a semester. Exceptions require the approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

    Part Time Students

    Part-time students will be those who are registered for less than twelve credits. Stevens will accept part-time, tuition-paying, nonresident students into general education, technical, and evening courses, provided that vacancies exist in a particular area. The tuition rate is by contact hour. Further information is available in the Registrar's Office.

    General Education Requirements

    Individual programs of study are based on the assumption that technical training includes a theoretical and general education background in addition to technical-specific, hands-on experience. The following requirements were established to enable the student to communicate purposefully and reason effectively.

    Students must successfully complete at least one general education class in each of the following five core areas: English, mathematics, social science, physical science, and physical education. Students are required to pass a total of nine general education courses including physical education in order to graduate. No more than one course can be taken in physical education.

    credits and contact hour equivalents

    The College’s procedure of assigning contact hours based upon course credits is made in accordance with federal regulations.  Specifically, for every credit assigned to a lecture portion of a course, one classroom contact hour is required.  For every credit assigned to a lab portion of a course, three laboratory contact hours are required.  In addition, students are expected to complete a minimum of two hours of “out-of-class” time for each week with every credit of instruction.

    Some science courses require two contact hours for each credit assigned to their lab portion.  Internships in all disciplines require 50 hours of on-the-job work experience for each assigned credit.

    Scheduling/Registration

    All scheduling is done through my.stevenscollege.edu. Watch your College email for announcements on when you can begin to schedule each semester.

    Course Selection and Graduation Requirements

    Students are responsible for fulfilling their graduation requirements, whether general education or technical. Faculty advisors assist students in planning course selections, but the final responsibility for meeting graduation requirements rests with each student.

    With an advisor's help, students should schedule and register for the required general education courses listed on their model schedules. Departures from these requirements are only acceptable if approved by the advisor and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

    Academic Year/Semesters

    The academic year is divided into two sessions of 16 weeks: the fall and spring semester. The Stevens Academic Summer Program is divided into three session: two 5 week sessions and one 10 week sessions.

    Finals Week

    Although finals are administered in most technical and general education courses during the last week of the semester, the regular class schedule is followed. A special final exam timetable is not instituted. Students with questions about their finals or special finals projects should discuss them with the instructor of the class during the semester.

    Academic Overload

    An academic/credit overload occurs when a student registers for more than 19 credits per semester, such as three general education courses of three credits each, plus the required technical subjects. Most overloads occur when students try to make up required courses. Students wishing to schedule an overload must have the permission of their advisors. In several of the programs, the model schedules requiire students to take ten general studies credits within a semester - three 3-credit courses and one physical education course. Students wishing to schedule an overload must have permission from the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
