Honoring Alex Munro

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology grieves the loss of one of its most influential and stalwart leaders, Alex Munro, who passed away on January 11.

Alex first came to Thaddeus Stevens College at the age of 14, graduating from the Masonry Construction program in 1960. After working in the industry for more than 20 years, he joined the Board of Governors for the Alumni Association and, shortly thereafter, became the Executive Director of the Thaddeus Stevens Foundation as well as the College’s representative for government affairs.

For more than 30 years, Alex was instrumental in every endeavor the College undertook. His advocacy for our school was deeply personal. He himself had benefitted from a life-changing opportunity at the College as a part of the legacy of Thaddeus Stevens. Alex was unendingly passionate about upholding that mission for current and future generations.

Alex was known for his ever-present charitable spirit, hard work, and ability to bridge connections. Without his leadership, the College would not have been able to build and maintain several buildings, receive needed increased funding for operations, and grow our programs to the level they are today. He even participated in building the Memorial Garden on our Main Campus by hand!

A storyteller at heart, he will forever be remembered as a champion of the incredible impact Thaddeus Stevens College had on his life and the lives of thousands of students who came after him.

No one will ever be as committed to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology as Alex Munro. This was his home, and he will be greatly missed.
