Students from across PA to showcase projects May 17-18

Lancaster, PA—Twenty-three student teams from across Pennsylvania will showcase their projects this week in the final round of the Governor’s STEM Competition at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

Working in teams of up to five, the students researched, designed and built a project using science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills that addresses a critical community need and enhance the way of life for Pennsylvanians.

Projects and participants will be available for press inquiry from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 in the Multipurpose Activity Center (MAC) on the main campus of Thaddeus Stevens College at 750 East King Street, Lancaster, 17602.

The Governor’s STEM Competition is a joint initiative of Governor Tom Wolf and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Thaddeus Stevens has hosted the finals of the Governor’s STEM Competition in each of its first four years. New this year, students will also on Thursday morning tour Rock Lititz, a company that employs STEM professionals, including many from Thaddeus Stevens, in a variety of positions.

“We are extremely honored to be the home for the finals of this incredibly important competition,” said Thaddeus Stevens President William Griscom. “This competition fosters the creative, problem-solving and analytical abilities of students from across the Commonwealth and serves as a positive foundation for advancing their STEM skills and education. As our students are aware, STEM skills are central to success in today’s high demand careers.”

STEM Competition teams first presented their projects in regional competition last winter. The top team from each intermediate unit advanced to the finals.

All regional winners will be recognized and state winners announced at the closing ceremonies, held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 18, in the MAC.

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology is consistently ranked as Pennsylvania’s top technical college and awards associate degrees in 22 high-demand, skilled occupations. A full listing of programs is available at www.StevensCollege.edu.
