Job Description

This is supervisory and custodial work for state operated facilities. An employee in this job supervises staff performing standard or aseptic cleaning and sanitation work. Work involves supervising positions responsible for cleaning buildings, gathering waste and recyclable materials, and using and maintaining custodial supplies and cleaning equipment. Work may involve supervising a lead worker over cleaning and sanitation staff. An important aspect of this work involves ensuring efficiency in the custodial unit’s work processes and recommending improvements that meet operational needs. Work is performed under the general direction of a custodial services manager or administrative supervisor, and is reviewed through personal conferences, reports, observation, and quality of completed work.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supervises staff responsible for standard or aseptic cleaning and sanitation work.
  • Plans, organizes, and assigns work to staff based on facility priorities.
  • Trains staff on the proper use of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and safety precautions.
  • Develops, evaluates, modifies, and implements operational standards and procedures for custodial services.
  • Inspects work performed by staff to ensure it meets established standards.
  • Prepares, submits, and maintains records that document attendance and work performed.
  • Identifies requirements and recommends ordering equipment and supplies.
  • Determines proper storage methods for custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Recommends maintenance and repair work to buildings, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Performs the full range of supervisory duties.
  • An employee in this job may participate in the performance of subordinates’ work consistent with operational and organizational requirements.
  • Performs supervisory duties such as interviewing and selecting candidates, completing employee performance reviews, approving and disapproving leave, and initiating discipline.
  • Performs work in accordance with TSCT, general safety rules, and safety rules for this position. Immediately reports all work injuries or incidents to Supervisor, and/or immediately corrects any safety hazards in the work area or reports same to Supervisor.
  • Makes frequent inspection of work performed by staff and initiates corrections and adjustments to operating methods and procedure.
  • Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years prior facilities service in a custodial manager or supervisor position experience preferred.
  • Position requires valid State of Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, diplomacy, and skill in providing sensitive communications and being respectful with people who are diverse in their cultures, languages, and abilities;
  • Ability to take initiative on projects, follow through on details, and balance various tasks simultaneously;
  • Exceptional written, presentation, and verbal communication skills that are effective with multiple constituencies.

Work Environment: Work is generally performed in both an office environment and an outdoor environment, with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule.

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, repetitive fine motor activities, and heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds). Hearing and speech to communicate in person, via video conference and computers, or over the telephone. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Stamina to remain seated and to maintain concentration for an extended period of time. Vision: Frequent near acuity, occasional far acuity, and color vision. Vision to read printed materials and online.
