What might our cities, technology, and environments look like if they were created by women?

In honor of Women’s History Month, Thaddeus Stevens College has joined together with Girls Garage and National Association of Women in Construction to bring you GRITT — Girls Rocking in Trades and Technology — a virtual presentation discussing the importance of female representation in STEM and trades.

We’ve all seen the statistics showing that females are underrepresented in STEM and the trades. These are problems of access, support, culture, and inclusion. Addressing the problems of underrepresentation and retention of women in these career paths is not merely for statistical gain, but for the betterment of our world.

GRITT will feature Emily Pilloton; designer, builder, educator, author and founder of the nonprofit Girls Garage. Emily Pilloton has taught thousands of young girls how to use power tools, weld, and build projects for their communities.

“I want girls, who have big dreams, goals, and ideas, to have zero barriers to access the tools they need to be successful. That tool might be a hammer, a little extra confidence to try something new, or the ability to see yourself in the world of STEM."

Discover how you can build off of your passion to learn, build a career pathway, and start to realize your future self during GRITT on March 9th. It doesn’t matter if you’re watching with your class, family or by yourself; get inspired and discover your potential in trades and technology.
