Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Strengthens Workforce Development Partnership with $25,000 Grant from Pennsylvania American Water

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology has received a $25,000 grant from Pennsylvania American Water to support its Water & Environmental Technology associate degree program. This partnership aims to provide scholarships and equip students with state-of-the-art training tools, furthering the College’s mission of preparing students for high-demand, family-sustaining careers.

The Water and Environmental Technology program addresses a critical workforce need in Pennsylvania. With more than 35 percent of the state’s water and wastewater employees at Pennsylvania American Water, the largest utility of its kind in the state, nearing retirement in the next five years, the industry faces a growing demand for skilled professionals. This grant empowers students to gain hands-on experience with industry-relevant equipment, equipping them for essential roles in maintaining and improving community infrastructure.

“Our workforce community needs talented graduates, just as we need industry partners to help shape and strengthen our programs,” said Pedro A. Rivera II, Ed.D., president of Thaddeus Stevens College. “Together, we create opportunities that serve both our students and communities to cultivate a prosperous future.”

The College’s Water and Environmental Technology program stands out for its strong outcomes. One hundred percent of the class of 2023 secured employment upon graduation, with a median starting salary of $57,500. Through this grant, the program will continue to host up to 25 students annually, offering scholarships that lower financial barriers for aspiring water and environmental professionals.

This collaboration highlights Thaddeus Stevens College’s commitment to aligning its programs with industry needs, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for meaningful careers. Partnerships like this are integral to the College’s mission to provide equitable access to education and to meet the workforce demands of Pennsylvania and beyond.

By investing in resources like the Water and Environmental Technology program, Pennsylvania American Water is helping to develop the next generation of skilled workers, creating a sustainable future for the water and wastewater industry.

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology continues to innovate and expand its offerings, ensuring students receive the hands-on training and education necessary to thrive in high-demand technical fields.
