Stevens Spotlight: Evan Templin '18

    08.17.17 | Stevens Spotlight

Evan Templin is a Computer Network Systems Administration major ‘18. Originally from Reinholds, Pennsylvania, Evan has always had a passion for electronics. Before coming to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, he's enjoyed learning all of the vast things you can do with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. With all of these interests, he found the computer world to be so natural and easy.

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology has opened the doors for a variety of students. Evan was determined to go to another college but it seems he couldn’t run away from his sister’s intuition. “I use to live in Lancaster and every time my family would drive past the large green ‘Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Next Right’ sign, my sister would always scream ‘That’s Where Evan’s going to College!!’. Trying to prove my sister wrong, because who wants to say their 5th-grade sister told them where to go – I looked at several colleges and in the end, I always came back to Thaddeus Stevens."

Since the moment he stepped on Campus – Evan was ready to take the next chapter of his life. "One thing I love about Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology is the fact that it allows anyone, regardless of background, to be able to come and get a degree in what they're passionate about, get a job, and then not be living the rest of their life in debt. It's more than just a degree, it's the opportunities and possibilities that come with it."

Evan’s dream career has always been to work for Google, but in the meantime, he currently works at the Career Services Office at TSCT. In his role, he processes statistics for students graduating and graduates while assisting in major events such as the Career Fair and Open House. On top of working for the Career Services Department, this past summer Evan interned for Penn State Health Saint Joseph's as an IT intern. In his role, he was part of a team that imaged PCs, installed PCs, monitors, and scanners in patient rooms, imaged about 5,000 laptops, 200 desktops, and serviced plenty of projectors.

If you are unsure of what you want to do, Evan recommends having some form of an internship. “Whether is’ a one-day job shadow, apprenticeship, or a temporary assistant position, you have to get out there! Find what you love, what you hate, and what you have a passion for. Find what you could or couldn’t see yourself doing for the rest of your life. And always dream big, because every step is one closer.”

Fun fact: did you know that Evan was born in the Branch Campus back when it was a hospital?
