Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Recognizes Student Athletes

    Noah Tarr, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology All-American wrestler, (Blairsville, PA), was named recipient of the Richard V. Bevilacqua Award at the College’s annual Athletic Awards Banquet.  The banquet was held on Tuesday, April 16 at the Multipurpose Activity Center on the College’s main campus.  

    In addition, the John C. Stauffer Award was presented to sophomore David Thompson (Lancaster, PA) in recognition of contributing the most to athletics for 2018-2019.

    The coaches of each team nominate the winners of these prestigious athletic awards.

    Each Thaddeus Stevens College athlete who completed a season was recognized at the banquet, with first year athletes receiving a certificate and second year athletes receiving a plaque with their sport, name and years of participation.

    Additional individual awards were presented to various outstanding athletes within each sport. The following individuals were recognized:

    Basketball

    • MVP Award:                                       Marqel Wansley (Mountville, PA)
    • Coaches Award:                                Edwin Perez (Lititz, PA)
    • Most Improved Player:                   Tyler Owens (Lancaster, PA)

     

    Football

    • Offensive MVP Award:                   Devin Carney (Masontown, PA)
    • Defensive MVP Award:                   Taun Evans (Coatesville, PA)
    • Coaches Award:                                William Perez-Cruz (Philadelphia, PA)
    • Coaches Award:                                Connor Zahm (Mount Wolf, PA)
    • Most Improved Athlete:                 Preston Taylor (Mifflintown, PA)
    • Most Improved Athlete:                 Austin Tucker (McVeytown, PA)

    The Excellence in Athletics Award was presented to the 2018 – 2019 Thaddeus Stevens College Bulldogs Men’s Basketball Team for their overall performance during the season, including hosting a first round NJCAA Region 19 championship tournament game. The team ended the year with a 17-10 overall record and a second place finish in the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC). Sophomores Mason Bossert and Marqel Wansley were also recognized for each scoring the 1,000th point of their career during the season.

    Kenny Stone, Thaddeus Stevens College Head Basketball Coach, was also recognized at the Banquet for being named 2019 Coach of the Year by the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC).

    Thaddeus Stevens College maintains an athletic program of five major intercollegiate sports: football, cross-country, basketball, wrestling, and track and field. Contests are scheduled against college and university junior varsity teams and junior and community colleges in the mid-Atlantic states. The cross-country, wrestling, and track and field programs are presently affiliated with the National Junior College Athletic Association. These affiliations allow Stevens’ athletes to compete in regional and national competition when qualifying standards are met. The basketball team is member in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference and the football squad in the Seaboard Conference.
